Convention Call Issued
The Official Convention Call for the 43rd Annual Convention of CUPE New Brunswick has been issued, and was mailed to Presidents of locals affiliated to CUPE NB during December 2006.
For a copy of the official convention call, just click here.
Number of Delegates
Affiliated locals are entitled to representation on the following basis:
- From local unions paying per capita on 100 members or less - two (2) delegates and one (1) additional delegate for each additional 100 members or portion thereof.
- From District Councils or Provincial Councils of Unions, a Provincial Occupational Group, the basis of representation shall be one delegate per Provincial Council, or group. Representation from District Councils or Provincial Councils of Unions or Provincial Occupational Groups must hold membership in an affiliated CUPE local union that is paying per capita tax to CUPE New Brunswick.
- Alternate Delegates - An affiliated local union, district council or provincial council may elect alternate delegates to attend annual or special conventions. For the purpose of this section, the duly elected alternate delegate must be in possession of a delegate's badge prior to being afforded voice or vote. It shall be the responsibility of the presiding officer to ensure that the intent of this section is carried out. An alternate delegate when replacing a duly elected delegate not seated shall have all full privileges of the delegate status.
Please remember, to help us in the planning, please return the white copy of the delegate registration form prior to March 3. Delegates should keep the yellow copy and present it at registration. Don't forget to include payment of $75.00 per delegate.
On-line pre-registration form
The best method of registration is by mail, using your official credential forms. However, you can register delegates via the web, but you will still have to submit officially signed credential forms and payment prior to or at registration.
Just click here to use our on-line pre-registration form.
As the list of delegates is prepared, the names of the registered delegates will also be posted here.
Per Capita Tax
Although the credentials have been sent, locals are still required to be "in good standing" with CUPE New Brunswick and National to attend. This means the following must be paid to attend:
- CUPE New Brunswick monthly per capita to the month of December 2006
- CUPE National per capita (including the Defence Fund Levy and Solidarity Levy) up to and including the month of December 2006.
As the convention draws near, locals will be advised by mail of the status of any registered delegates, and this notice will also include your status of payments to CUPE New Brunswick and CUPE National. However, it is the local's obligation to verify this information prior to attending. This will help avoid any last-minute problems at registration.
Convention Kit
A copy of the A copy of the resolutions is available on-line (click here) and will be available at registration
Resolutions
Resolutions and Amendments - All resolutions to be considered at the convention must be submitted by a Local Union or a District Council or Provincial Council, or occupational groups organized under Article 4.7 of the National Constitution or by the Executive Board of CUPE New Brunswick or Committee thereof, so that they are in the hands of the Secretary-Treasurer not later than forty-five (45) days prior to the Convention, and must not exceed two hundred (200) words in total. All resolutions must be signed by the presiding officer and secretary of such affiliate. Emergency resolutions introduced from the floor of the Convention may be considered only with the consent of a two-thirds majority vote of the Convention. Click here to review resolutions that are available at this time
Convention Assistance Fund
Local Unions having less than twenty-five (25) members may make application to the CUPE New Brunswick Executive Committee for financial assistance with transportation to assist in sending a delegate to convention. The CUPE New Brunswick Executive is empowered to authorize payment.
